2027: Supporters Raise ₦45.7 Million for El-Rufai’s Nomination Form in Four Hours

In a striking display of political mobilization, a group of supporters and political associates of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has reportedly raised ₦45.7 million in just four hours.

The funds are earmarked for the purchase of his expression of interest and nomination forms ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The fundraising drive, which began as a spontaneous social media campaign on Saturday morning, quickly gained momentum as donors from across the country and the diaspora contributed various sums to a dedicated account. Organizers of the movement, operating under the banner of the “National Movement for Meritocracy,” stated that the rapid response underscores a “deep-seated desire for administrative competence and decisive leadership” in the next political cycle.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja shortly after the target was surpassed, a spokesperson for the group noted that the ₦45.7 million figure was achieved through micro-donations and larger contributions from key stakeholders.

“We did not expect to hit this milestone before noon. This is not just about money; it is a clear message that Nigerians are looking for a leader with a proven track record of urban renewal and institutional reform,” the spokesperson added.

While El-Rufai has not officially declared his candidacy under a specific platform following his highly publicized shift toward the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and his recent critiques of current policy directions this financial surge is being viewed by analysts as a “test of the waters” for his 2027 ambitions.

The development comes at a time of significant realignment within Nigeria’s political landscape. Since leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) fold, El-Rufai has become a focal point for opposition figures and those seeking an alternative to the status quo.

Critics, however, remain wary, suggesting that such early fundraising efforts are premature. Nonetheless, the speed at which the funds were generated highlights the former governor’s enduring influence and the potent organizational machinery behind his potential bid.

As of press time, the El-Rufai media office has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the fundraising, though close associates suggest the former minister is “humbled by the gesture.” With the 2027 election cycle beginning to heat up, this ₦45.7 million “breaking” start sets a high bar for political fundraising in the months to come.
