2027: ADC Chieftain Peter Adejoh Picks Benue Governorship Forms, Vows to Unseat Alia
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Adejoh, has officially obtained the party’s governorship nomination forms ahead of the 2027 general elections in Benue State, declaring his determination to unseat Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Adejoh, who picked the forms amid growing political activities ahead of the next election cycle, said his ambition was driven by the need to provide what he described as purposeful and people-oriented leadership for Benue residents.
Speaking after obtaining the forms, the ADC stalwart expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could be defeated in the state if opposition forces remained united and focused on addressing the concerns of ordinary citizens.
He criticised the current administration over insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, and the continued challenges facing rural communities across the state. According to him, Benue deserves a government that prioritises security, agriculture, infrastructure, and youth empowerment. Adejoh also pledged to run an issue-based campaign and promised to restore public confidence in governance if elected governor in 2027.
Political observers say the declaration signals the early build-up to what is expected to be a highly competitive governorship race in Benue State, with opposition parties already intensifying mobilisation efforts ahead of the polls. Governor Alia, who was elected on the platform of the APC in 2023, has repeatedly defended his administration’s record, especially in the areas of rural development and security interventions.
However, opposition figures continue to accuse the government of not doing enough to tackle persistent attacks and economic difficulties affecting many communities.
The ADC has in recent months intensified efforts to strengthen its structures nationwide as part of preparations for the 2027 elections, with party leaders insisting that the party remains committed to providing Nigerians with an alternative platform focused on accountability and good governance.
