Sanwo-Olu Endorses Deputy, Hamzat to Succeed Him in 2027

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday announced the endorsement of his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State.

The announcement followed a closed-door meeting held at Lagos House in Marina, attended by members of the Governor’s Advisory Council and other key stakeholders.

Among those present were former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, and Ganiyu Solomon, alongside other party leaders.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu said the decision to back Hamzat was reached unanimously by those in attendance.

He described the deputy governor as experienced and well-prepared to lead the state, citing his performance and working relationship with him over the past seven years.

The governor highlighted Hamzat’s qualities, including loyalty, integrity, and commitment, noting that these attributes make him suitable for the role.

Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged the influence of President Bola Tinubu in shaping both his political journey and that of his deputy.

He explained that the endorsement was part of a broader consultative process involving party leaders and government officials, reflecting consensus among stakeholders.

The governor added that Hamzat’s leadership capacity and experience position him as a strong candidate to succeed him in office.
