FG Secures $83 Million to Expand Off-Grid Electricity Access
The Federal Government has secured $83 million to improve electricity access in parts of Nigeria that are not connected to the national power grid.
This money will be used to expand off-grid solutions, especially in rural and remote communities where many people still lack reliable power supply. The initiative aims to bring electricity to more homes, schools, and small businesses across the country.
Off-grid electricity means power generated and used locally without depending on the main national grid. The funds will support solar power projects, mini-grids, and other renewable energy systems. These solutions are expected to be faster and cheaper to set up in areas where extending the national grid is difficult or too costly.
This development is seen as a major step toward solving Nigeria’s long-standing electricity problems. Millions of Nigerians, particularly in villages and small towns, still rely on generators or live without power. With this new funding, the government hopes to increase the number of people who can enjoy steady electricity for daily needs like lighting, charging phones, and running small machines.
The project will focus on creating sustainable energy solutions that can last for many years. It is also expected to create jobs for local technicians and support businesses that depend on reliable power.
Officials believe that expanding off-grid access will help reduce poverty and improve the quality of life in underserved communities.
Many Nigerians have welcomed the announcement because electricity remains a major challenge in the country. If successfully implemented, this $83 million investment could bring light and opportunities to thousands of homes and businesses.
The move shows the government’s continued effort to improve power supply and support economic growth through renewable energy.
