Fire Outbreaks Destroy Residential Building, Shops in Ibadan

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

A blaze has been reported in Ibadan, Oyo State which razed residential homes and shops, rendering Residents distressed.

According to reports, two separate fire incidents occurred in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday, April 12, 2026. The blazes resulted in the destruction of properties worth millions of naira, though fortunately, no casualties or loss of life were reported in either location.

The first incident took place at a residential building situated near C.A.C Oke-Ayo at the Idi-Obi Junction in the Agugu area. The fire broke out in a five-bedroom flat located on the upper floor of a two-story building, which was quickly engulfed in thick smoke and flames.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the emergency and stated that his team responded swiftly. Upon arrival, firefighters engaged the blaze immediately, successfully restricting its momentum and preventing it from spreading to the rest of the structure.

The second fire incident occurred at a shop located at No C12, Ajomole Compound, Olukoyi Street, in the Oja Oba area of Ibadan. This fire broke out on the same Sunday, prompting another urgent response from the state’s fire department to the busy commercial vicinity.

Fire officials described the shop as a prefabricated structure that was already “well alighted” and covered in heavy smoke by the time they reached the scene. The intensity of the fire posed a significant threat to the surrounding commercial properties in the compound.

Through a coordinated attack, the fire service officers were able to contain the inferno within the affected shop. Their rapid intervention was credited with saving nearby shops and preventing what could have been a much larger disaster in the marketplace.

While the exact causes of these specific fires were not detailed in the immediate statement, the Fire Service Chairman used the opportunity to confirm that the agency remains vigilant. He praised the efficiency of his officers in managing both separate emergencies within the city on the same day.
