Bayern Munich Smashes 54-Year-Old Bundesliga Scoring Record

Bayern Munich etched their names into the history books on Saturday, April 11, 2026, by breaking the long-standing record for the most goals scored in a single Bundesliga season.

Entering their Matchday 29 fixture against St. Pauli with 100 goals, the Bavarian giants needed just two to eclipse the previous milestone of 101, set by the legendary 1971–72 Bayern squad led by Gerd Müller and Franz Beckenbauer.

Vincent Kompany’s side didn’t just break the record; they did so with clinical precision in a dominant 5–0 victory.

The historic moment arrived in the 53rd minute when Leon Goretzka volleyed home from a Joshua Kimmich free-kick, marking Bayern’s 102nd goal of the campaign. Earlier in the match, Jamal Musiala had equaled the 54-year-old record with a 9th-minute header.

The floodgates opened following Goretzka’s strike, with further goals from Michael Olise, Nicolas Jackson, and Raphaël Guerreiro bringing the team’s total to an incredible 105 goals—all with five matches still remaining in the 34-game season.

This offensive explosion has been driven by a relentless front line featuring Harry Kane, who currently leads the league with 31 goals. He is flanked by summer signings Michael Olise and Luis Díaz, who have provided both scoring depth and elite playmaking. The team’s current scoring average of 3.62 goals per game puts them on a trajectory to finish the season with over 120 goals, a feat that would rival the greatest attacking campaigns in the history of Europe’s top five leagues.

Beyond the numbers, the achievement underscores the tactical evolution under Vincent Kompany. “This is a testament to the collective hunger of this group,” Sporting Director Christoph Freund noted after the match. Unlike previous iterations of the team that relied heavily on a single focal point, the current squad has seen contributions from across the pitch, with multiple players reaching double digits in goals. The record-breaking performance serves as a powerful statement as Bayern prepares for their Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Real Madrid next week.

With the 101-goal barrier finally broken, Bayern Munich now sets its sights on broader horizons, including the all-time European top-five league record of 125 goals. As the Bundesliga title race enters its final stretch, the “Rekordmeister” have ensured that the 2025–26 campaign will be remembered as the most prolific season in German football history. For a club defined by its past legends, this modern squad has finally surpassed the benchmarks set by the icons of the 1970s.
