FG Opens Applications for NDDC 2026/2027 Foreign Scholarship
The Federal Government has started accepting applications for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) foreign scholarship programme for the 2026/2027 academic year.
This scholarship is aimed at young people from the Niger Delta region who want to study abroad at postgraduate level. It covers Master’s and PhD programmes in fields like engineering, medicine, ICT, environmental sciences, and management. The goal is to build skilled professionals who can help develop the region when they return home.
The NDDC scholarship is open to indigenes of the nine oil-producing states: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo, and Rivers. Applicants must have a good first degree for Master’s programmes or a Master’s for PhD. They also need to show strong academic records and meet other basic requirements set by the commission.
The programme pays for tuition, living costs, travel, and health insurance while students are overseas.
This year’s scholarship is part of the NDDC’s long-term plan to train more Niger Delta youths abroad. Many past beneficiaries have come back to work in key sectors, contributing to better infrastructure, healthcare, and technology in their communities.
The Commission believes investing in education is one of the best ways to reduce poverty and create lasting progress in the region.
Interested candidates can apply online through the official NDDC website or portal. The application window is open for a limited time, so applicants are advised to submit early and make sure all documents are complete.
Required papers usually include academic transcripts, birth certificate, local government identification, and a recent passport photograph.
The scholarship has become very popular over the years because it gives young people from the Niger Delta a rare chance to study in top universities abroad without financial stress.
Successful applicants will be chosen after screening tests and interviews. The NDDC says it will pick only the best candidates who show real promise and commitment to serve their communities later.
This opportunity is a big step for many youths dreaming of higher education overseas. As applications continue, the focus is on encouraging more qualified people from the region to apply and take advantage of this support.
The programme remains one of the key ways the government is working to build a brighter future for the Niger Delta through education.
