Yobe Governor Pledges Loyalty to Political Mentor, Gaidam

The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to his political mentor and predecessor, Ibrahim Gaidam, saying he would rather sacrifice his life than betray the man who shaped his political career.

Buni made the declaration on Tuesday while addressing delegates at the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) congress in Damaturu, the state capital.

“I would rather die than betray him. I am deeply grateful for his role in my journey, and I will never forget where I come from or turn my back on the man who trusted and supported me,” the governor said.

He emphasised that trust has been the foundation of his political path and insisted that betrayal has never been part of his record.

“I am a product of trust. I have never betrayed anyone; it is not in my character. I want to be remembered as someone who keeps faith,” Buni added.

The governor also encouraged newly elected party officials to remain committed to integrity and trust in the performance of their duties.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements over the past seven years, Buni noted progress in education, primary healthcare, empowerment programs, and commerce, assuring residents that these sectors would continue to receive priority attention.

On the matter of succession, the governor urged APC members to seek divine guidance in selecting the party’s next governorship candidate. He called on party faithful to support a candidate capable of uniting members and continuing the “good works” of his administration.
