Umar Doguwa Elected Kano APC Chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has elected Umar Haruna Doguwa as its new state chairman during the party’s congress held in Kano on Tuesday.

Doguwa, who recently resigned as commissioner for water resources in the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf, emerged unopposed following a consensus arrangement endorsed by party stakeholders.

The congress, which took place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Sani Abacha Stadium, was attended by delegates from all 44 local government areas of Kano State and supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Party leaders described the process as transparent and credible, emphasizing that the election reflected broad agreement among APC members in the state.

Doguwa emergence marks a leadership transition within the Kano APC, replacing former chairman Abdullahi Abbas, who had led the party for nearly a decade. In his acceptance speech, Doguwa thanked delegates and party leaders for their confidence, pledging to strengthen party unity and expand grassroots structures ahead of future elections.

Outgoing chairman Abbas congratulated the new leadership and urged members to rally behind the executive committee. Governor Yusuf, who attended the congress, also expressed optimism about the party’s direction and called on the new executives to prioritize discipline and political engagement.

Political analysts note that Doguwa’s election could reshape the dynamics of the APC in Kano State as the party prepares for upcoming political contests.

His prior experience in government and party administration is expected to influence the APC’s strategies in the region.

The APC remains one of Nigeria’s major political parties, competing for influence across states and at the federal level.

With new leadership in Kano, observers will watch how the party positions itself in the evolving political landscape.
