Niger Assembly Speaker Hails Security Agencies for Onslaught Against Bandits
The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, has praised the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies for notable successes in combating banditry in Mariga Local Government Area and across parts of Niger North.
Describing the operations as a significant breakthrough in the state’s fight against insecurity, the Speaker highlighted that the combined efforts of security personnel led to the elimination of several bandits and the arrest of others.
He also commended the joint clearance missions conducted by the Army and DSS, noting that intelligence-driven actions contributed to the rescue of more than 70 kidnapped individuals in the region.
The commendation was released in a statement on Sunday by the acting head of the Assembly’s Directorate of Media and Public Relations, Mairo Adamu Mani.
The statement said the Speaker “stated that this decisive action has greatly weakened the activities of criminal elements in the affected areas and restored confidence among residents who had lived in fear for a long time.”
Sarkin-Daji further praised the unwavering dedication of security operatives, especially the special forces and DSS personnel, for their sacrifices in protecting lives and property throughout Niger State and Nigeria.
He acknowledged the inherent risks involved in such operations and expressed heartfelt appreciation to officers who put themselves in danger to safeguard citizens, particularly those in vulnerable communities.
The Speaker assured the security agencies of the state government’s continued support, emphasizing that Niger State will provide all necessary resources to reinforce ongoing security measures.
According to the statement, the Niger State government “remains fully committed to working closely with all security stakeholders to ensure that the lingering challenges of insecurity are completely addressed and brought to an end.”
The Speaker also appealed to residents to stay calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, stressing that the protection of lives and property is a top priority for the government.
He encouraged citizens to assist security agencies by providing reliable and timely information to help sustain peace and stability across the state.
