ISWAP Appoints New Commander Following Neutralization of Former Leader
ISWAP has appointed Abu Khalifa as the new commander of the Timbuktu Triangle.
This leadership change follows internal meetings aimed at reorganizing the group’s hierarchy.
The appointment comes after the death of the former leader, Julaibib. He was recently killed by Nigerian troops during an Operation HADIN KAI strike in Borno State.
Confirming the development, a security source stated: “Intelligence revealed that Abu Khalifa has been named as the new ISWAP commander in the Timbuktu Triangle to replace Julaibib.”
While the top post is filled, the deputy position remains vacant. However, a militant named Tuja is reportedly the leading candidate to become the new second-in-command.
The Nigerian military continues to intensify its offensive in southern Borno. These operations are designed to dismantle terrorist enclaves and restore regional stability.
Julaibib’s death initially caused significant disarray within the group. The naming of Abu Khalifa highlights ISWAP’s effort to maintain its command structure under pressure.
