Ogun Court Arraigns, Remands Singer Portable Over Alleged Assault, Theft

An Ogun State court has arraigned and remanded controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, over alleged assault, theft and related offences.

Portable was arraigned on Monday before the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, on a nine-count criminal charge bordering on assault, theft, causing bodily harm and resisting lawful arrest.

Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the singer’s arraignment followed investigations into multiple complaints lodged against him, including one reportedly filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.

The police disclosed that the case gained public attention after a video showing Portable in police custody went viral on Sunday.

According to the prosecution, the singer allegedly attacked Ashabi Simple, several police officers and other individuals at his bar located in Iyana Ilogbo, Ogun State, on New Year’s Day.

Other alleged victims listed in the charge include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi and Ebuka Odah.

Portable is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million, said to belong to Ileyemi Damilola. The vehicle was reportedly sold through a car dealer identified as Wally Dex Auto.

During the court proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified, giving accounts of the alleged assault incident. The prosecution told the court that the offences committed by the singer were punishable under relevant sections of Nigerian law.

The court subsequently ordered that Portable be remanded in custody pending the determination of his bail application and adjourned the matter to a later date for further hearing.
