Ex-Ekiti Gov Dumps SDP for APC

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, has officially defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He formalized the move by participating in the party’s ongoing e-registration exercise at his country home in Ifaki Ekiti on Sunday.

The announcement was made by Adesola Adedayo, the state’s APC e-registration coordinator, who described Oni’s return as a major boost. He noted that the former governor remains a highly respected and popular figure within grassroots politics.

Oni’s defection is seen as a significant political realignment ahead of the 2026 Ekiti governorship election and the 2027 general elections. Party leaders believe his influence will strengthen the APC’s winning streak and attract more members to the fold.

Having previously served as governor under the PDP and contested the 2022 election under the SDP, Oni’s move back to the APC comes shortly after Governor Biodun Oyebanji revalidated his own membership, signaling a unified front for the ruling party.
