Wike Dismisses Calls for Sack, Says Criticism Proof of Performance

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed calls for President Bola Tinubu to sack him saying such demands are unnecessary and that only his appointor has the authority to decide his fate.

Wike spoke on Friday during a Rivers State council tour in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, where he reacted to growing public commentary urging the President to remove him from office.

“Don’t bother about people who say sack me. If my appointor believes I don’t have anything to offer again, he has the right. It’s not that you should tell him,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor said he remains confident in his performance as FCT minister, stressing that criticism often follows visibility and results.

According to him, those who are not making an impact rarely attract public attention.

“I am very proud that Rivers people are proud, and we can tell Nigerians that we have not disappointed them as far as the FCT is concerned,” he stated.

Wike added that public debate around his office is a reflection of the work being done, noting that performance naturally draws scrutiny.

“I said yesterday in Port Harcourt, and I want people to know this clearly: if you are not doing well, nobody will talk about you,” he said.

The FCT minister has been a prominent figure in the current administration often drawing both praise and criticism over his policies and leadership style since his appointment by President Tinubu.
