NSCDC Hands Over Fagge Officers to Police After Suspect Dies in Custody
The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken disciplinary and investigative steps following the death of a suspect while in custody at its Fagge Divisional Office.
As part of the measures, the divisional officer in charge of Fagge has been removed from her position, while all officers and personnel on duty at the time of the incident have been transferred to the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible action.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Ibrahim Abdullahi, on Friday.
“Following the sad incident in which a suspect lost his life in Fagge divisional office and the subsequent setting up of panel of inquiry for discreet and fair investigation into the case, the state Commandant, NSCDC Kano State command, Mohammed Hassan Agalama has approved the removal of Fagge divisional officer, SC Amina Musa Kolawale,” Abdullahi said.
He added that leadership changes have already been effected at the division to ensure continuity of operations.
“A new divisional officer, CSC Bashir Isa Abubakar, has now been deployed to replace her,” he stated.
The NSCDC urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue, stressing that the corps remains committed to professionalism and accountability.
According to the statement, the command reaffirmed its dedication to “continuous respect to the sanctity of life, human rights as well as upholding professionalism, standard operational procedure, integrity and rule of law.”
The incident had earlier prompted the NSCDC to constitute an internal committee tasked with conducting a discreet and impartial probe into the death of a volunteer supporting staff at the Fagge Divisional Office.
The outcome of both internal and police investigations is expected to determine further actions regarding the case.
