Minister Idris Suspends Aide, Denies Interest in 2027 Niger Governorship

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has clarified that he has no interest in the 2027 Niger State governorship race, following the publication of a write-up titled “Malagi 2027.”

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the minister’s office said the article, which speculated on political scenarios ahead of the 2027 election, was authored without authorisation by one of his aides, Sa’idu Enagi.

“The write-up and all its contents are hereby vehemently disclaimed,” the statement said, urging the public to disregard the publication.

The minister emphasised that he remains focused on his official duties at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and does not tolerate political distractions or premature electioneering activities.

He also stated that he neither directed nor approved the write-up.

As a result, an immediate investigation has been launched, and the aide responsible has been suspended with immediate effect.

The statement further highlighted the cordial working relationship between Minister Idris and the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, noting that both leaders are committed to the development and stability of the state.

“Speculations about the 2027 elections would be inimical to these noble objectives,” it added.

The disclaimer was signed by Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant (Media) to the minister.
