Six Die, 4 Rescued in Lagos Boat Mishap

A tragic boat mishap along the Nigerdock axis of the Igbologun Water Channel in Lagos has resulted in at least six confirmed fatalities, while four others were saved.
In a joint statement issued Wednesday by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), officials confirmed that the accident involving a Savvy Marine passenger vessel occurred around 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday.
The boat was reportedly traveling from Ilashe Beach House when the incident took place.
Emergency protocols were immediately triggered following a distress call, leading to a coordinated search and rescue operation involving the Marine Police and other first responders.
The agencies reported the current status of the victims, stating: “As of the time of this report, four passengers have been successfully rescued and transported to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention. Sadly, six other passengers were found dead at the scene. Search and rescue operations remain ongoing to account for all persons involved.
Initial assessments suggest that the accident may have been triggered by the boat striking a submerged object. However, authorities noted that a comprehensive investigation is still underway to determine the exact cause of the tragedy.
