Senator Godiya Akwashiki of Nasarawa North Passes Away in India at Aged 52

‎Senator Godiya Akwashiki, representing the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Nasarawa North, has passed away at 52 years old after battling a long-term illness.

‎An anonymous family member confirmed the news on Thursday in Nassarawa Eggon, stating that the lawmaker died on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, while receiving treatment at a hospital in India.

‎The source remarked that the senator’s passing is a significant loss that leaves a major void, highlighting his dedication to advancing the senatorial district and his various initiatives for community empowerment.

‎In the history of the region, Senator Akwashiki is regarded as the most effective representative Nasarawa North has ever seen because of his result-oriented leadership style.

‎The family representative noted that the senator’s influence is visible across the entire constituency through numerous projects, adding that he was the first senator in the district’s history to successfully secure a second term in office.

‎According to  records, prior to his transition to the Nigerian Senate in 2019, Akwashiki held prominent roles in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, serving as both Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker.

‎Biographical details indicate that Akwashiki was born on August 3, 1973, in the Angba Iggah area of Nassarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State.
