Nigeria on Redemption World Cup Qualifier Debacle with Lesotho Today
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Crocodiles of Lesotho today (Friday, October 10, 2025) in their 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers, a decisive encounter that could shape their qualification chances.
Nigeria currently sit third in Group C with 11 points from eight matches, trailing joint leaders Benin Republic and South Africa by three points.
Their campaign was given a boost after FIFA docked South Africa three points and three goals for fielding an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, during their March 2025 fixture against Lesotho.
The two sides last met on November 16, 2023, in Uyo, where the match ended in a 1–1 draw.
Head coach, Eric Chelle has named a 23-man squad for the encounter, making two late changes to his lineup. Zaidu Sanusi replaces Bright Osayi-Samuel, while Uche Christantus comes in for Cyriel Dessers.
Captain William Troost-Ekong will lead a team featuring Terem Moffi, Alhassan Yusuf, and Olakunle Olusegun, who all return to the squad.
Stanley Nwabali retains his spot as first-choice shot stopper, supported by Amas Obasogie and Adebayo Adeleye. The midfield includes Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi, and Alhassan Yusuf, while Victor Osimhen spearheads the attack alongside Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, and Samuel Chukwueze.
Lesotho will host the game in South Africa, following FIFA’s directive on stadium suitability. The Crocodiles will be aiming to frustrate Nigeria’s progress and end their qualifying campaign on a high note.
Meanwhile, other Group C fixtures could determine Nigeria’s fate. Benin Republic face Rwanda, while South Africa take on Zimbabwe in concurrent matches that may influence the final standings.
