Governor Radda Hails Amupitan’s Appointment as INEC Chairman, Calls it ‘Well-Deserved’

The Governor of Katsina State, Mallam Dikko Umar Radda, on Thursday extended his felicitations to Professor Joash Amupitan following his confirmation by the National Council of State as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement released to journalists in Katsina by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, Governor Radda characterized Professor Amupitan’s elevation—which followed President Bola Tinubu’s recommendation—as a fitting acknowledgment of his exceptional academic track record, unimpeachable professional ethics, and decades-long dedication to upholding the rule of law and sound governance in Nigeria.

Governor Radda highlighted the appointment as a significant historical event, noting that Professor Amupitan is the first individual from Kogi State in the North Central geopolitical zone to assume the role of INEC Chairman.

He lauded the Federal Government and the National Council of State for their unanimous endorsement, suggesting that the selection of a non-partisan and highly respected legal academic like Professor Amupitan underscores the administration’s commitment to reinforcing democratic structures and guaranteeing credible and transparent electoral processes nationwide.

The Governor further praised Professor Amupitan’s distinguished career as a Professor of Law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), pointing to his extensive expertise in areas such as company law, corporate governance, and public administration.

He stated that the new INEC Chairman has consistently exemplified excellence, discipline, and impartiality—qualities he deemed crucial for the success of Nigeria’s electoral system.

“The appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan as INEC Chairman is a testament to his integrity and intellectual depth. I have no doubt that he will bring renewed confidence, transparency, and innovation to our nation’s electoral management,” Governor Radda asserted.

Governor Radda also described the appointment as a moment of pride not only for Kogi State but for the entire North Central region, viewing it as a renewal of hope for balanced national representation in vital federal institutions.

Concluding his message, Governor Radda urged Professor Amupitan to view the position as both a national distinction and a solemn obligation to serve with equity, courage, and patriotism. He assured the new INEC boss of the unwavering support and goodwill of the Government and people of Katsina State.

“On behalf of the Government and the good people of Katsina State, I congratulate Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan on his appointment… We are confident that his leadership will strengthen the credibility of Nigeria’s elections and further entrench democratic values across the country,” the Governor added.
