Oyo APC Members Protest Over N300bn Loan, Intimidation Claims
Hundreds of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State on Monday staged a peaceful protest in Ibadan against what they described as intimidation of one of their lawmakers, Hon. Ibrahim Shittu, representing Saki West State Constituency.
The protesters, who marched from the APC secretariat in Oke-Ado to Mokola Roundabout in Ibadan North Local Government Area, accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government of attempting to silence Shittu for opposing the state’s fresh ₦300 billion loan request recently approved by the House of Assembly.
Chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards, the APC members said the rising debt profile of Oyo State was worrisome and urged the Assembly leadership to respect dissenting voices rather than subject opposition lawmakers to harassment.
They maintained that Hon. Shittu only expressed the concerns of his constituents, stressing that attempts to intimidate him would not be tolerated.
The protesters called on Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to prioritize accountability and transparency in the use of public funds instead of “mortgaging the future of Oyo people with endless borrowing.”
