Man Docked for Alleged Theft of N7.5m Electric Cable in Lagos

A 25-year-old man, Alex Ibrahim, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing an electric cable valued at N7.5 million in Lagos.

The defendant, who resides at Opic, Lagos, was brought before the court on Tuesday on a one-count charge of stealing, contrary to Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

According to the prosecution, led by Superintendent of Police Josephine Ikhayere, the incident occurred on August 9 at about 9:00 p.m. at No. 11A Church Close, Isheri North GRA, Lagos.

Ikhayere told the court that Ibrahim allegedly stole the cable, property of one Sunday Alele, an act she described as a serious economic crime.

She noted that the stolen cable, valued at N7.5 million, was meant for a construction project, and its disappearance caused a major setback for the property owner.

The charge was read to the defendant, but he pleaded not guilty.

Following the plea, Magistrate granted Ibrahim bail and adjourned the case to a later date for trial.

The case highlights the rising concerns about theft of building materials and electrical installations across Lagos, a crime that often results in costly delays for property owners and developers.
