MAAUN Group Seals Partnership with Canada’s Seneca Polytechnic on English Training, Student Exchange

The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) Group has entered into a strategic partnership with Seneca Polytechnic, Canada, to enhance English language proficiency, promote student exchange programmes, and strengthen academic collaboration. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on September 4, 2025, with the Founder and President of MAAUN Group, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, signing on behalf of the institution, while Seneca Polytechnic President, David Agnew, represented the Canadian institution. At the signing ceremony, Professor Gwarzo described the agreement as a milestone that reflects MAAUN’s growing commitment to building international networks for academic excellence. He explained that the partnership would provide students with better access to opportunities abroad, while also fostering capacity building for academic staff. According to him, the collaboration would “lay a solid foundation for strong cooperation and knowledge exchange” between the two institutions. In his remarks, Seneca Polytechnic President, David Agnew, welcomed the agreement and emphasised its potential to benefit both students and staff. He said the initiative would create pathways for African students to pursue advanced studies in Canada, while also allowing both institutions to share expertise and expand their research frontiers. The MAAUN Group, which comprises the Canadian University of Nigeria in Abuja, Franco-British International University in Kaduna, Maryam Abacha American University of Niger in Maradi, and Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in Kano, has in recent years expanded its global partnerships through agreements with leading institutions in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The latest collaboration with Seneca Polytechnic marks its first with a major Canadian institution and is expected to further open doors for international research, innovation, and mobility. Education analysts note that the initiative is particularly significant as it will improve English language proficiency among students, create clearer academic progression routes to Canadian universities, and provide opportunities for staff development. It is also expected to strengthen institutional cooperation in curriculum design, joint programmes, and international recruitment. Both institutions have agreed to set up joint working groups to determine the implementation strategies of the MoU, including course development, programme timelines, and exchange frameworks. The leadership of MAAUN expressed its commitment to ensuring the full execution of the agreement, with Professor Gwarzo describing the partnership as a “gateway to greater opportunities for African students and a step forward in building bridges with global institutions.
