The remark came during a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, signaling China’s broader endorsement of diplomatic engagement amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

According to details from the call, which took place earlier this week, Xi emphasized that China “would like to see” the United States and Russia improve their ties, especially in light of efforts to de-escalate the war in Ukraine.
