Nigerians are Hedonists with High Rate of Casual Intercourse, Survey Reveals

A recent survey has shed light on the intimate lives of Nigerians, revealing a significant percentage of men and women who have engaged in intercourse with partners outside of their marital relationships or cohabiting arrangements.

According to the survey, which sampled Nigerians between the ages of 15 and 49, a substantial number of men have had intercourse with someone who is neither their spouse nor a live-in partner.

The South South region recorded the highest percentage, with 40.7% of men admitting to such encounters.

The South East and South West regions followed closely, with 32.4% and 30.8% of men, respectively.

In contrast, the North West region recorded the lowest percentage, with only 5.8% of men engaging in casual intercourse.

The North East region also had a relatively low percentage, with 8.3% of men.

The survey also revealed significant regional disparities among women. The South South region again recorded the highest percentage, with 22.5% of women admitting to intercourse with a non-spousal, non-cohabiting partner. The North Central region followed, with 21.4% of women.

However, the North West region had the lowest percentage of women engaging in casual intercourse, with a mere 0.6% of women admitting to such encounters.

The North East region also had a relatively low percentage, with 4.6% of women.

The survey’s findings highlight the need for increased awareness and education about safe sex practices and the importance of protecting oneself from sexually transmitted infections.

The regional disparities also underscore the importance of tailoring public health interventions to address the unique needs and cultural contexts of different regions.
