PDP’s Downfall Began with Unpunished Indiscipline in 2015, Says Kenneth Okonkwo

Veteran Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has offered a scathing assessment of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the party has been in decline since 2015 due to its failure to address internal indiscipline.

According to Okonkwo, the PDP’s downward trend began when some of its members formed the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) and collaborated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to defeat their own party in the 2015 presidential election.

The former Labour Party chieftain believes that the PDP’s failure to discipline those who worked against former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 has led to the party’s current misfortunes.

In a statement released on his social media account, Okonkwo wrote: “Because the indiscipline of 2015 was not punished, the indiscipline of 2023 became a custom in PDP.”

He argued that the lack of accountability and punishment for those who engaged in anti-party activities has created a culture of impunity within the PDP.

Okonkwo recalled the events of 2015, when seven governors and other high-ranking PDP officials defected to the APC, forming the nPDP and ultimately contributing to the party’s defeat.

He noted that despite these acts of impunity, no punishment was meted out to the offending members, allowing the culture of indiscipline to persist.

The actor-turned-politician believes that the PDP’s failure to address its internal discipline has led to its current state of decline, with the party now at its “lowest ebb.”

Okonkwo’s comments offer a candid assessment of the PDP’s struggles and highlight the need for the party to reform and address its internal challenges in order to regain its footing in Nigerian politics.
