  • All Indicators Show Tinubu Won’t be Re-elected in 2027, Insists El-Rufai Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that President Bola Tinubu has no realistic pathway to securing a second term in office in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking during a public engagement earlier in the week, El-Rufai insisted that the current state of the nation, coupled with what he described as widespread dissatisfaction with the Tinubu administration, makes a re-election victory unlikely. He maintained that a people-powered coalition, not reliant on sitting governors or political officeholders, is already being mobilized to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next electoral cycle. “There is no pathway for re-election in 2027. We don’t need governors to unseat anyone. What we need is the people. That is where the real power is,” El-Rufai stated. He argued that the rising economic hardship, insecurity, and disillusionment among Nigerians have significantly diminished public confidence in the APC-led government. According to him, many of the President’s former allies and supporters are now reconsidering their political affiliations and exploring new platforms for 2027. El-Rufai, who has recently distanced himself from the ruling party, said the movement he supports is not interested in seeking political endorsements from the establishment but is focused on grassroots mobilization. He added that the 2023 elections showed a shift in political consciousness, where voters challenged long-standing party dominance and embraced alternative candidates. The former governor’s comments come at a time when internal dissent within the APC appears to be growing, especially among influential northern politicians. El-Rufai’s stance also hints at his possible re-entry into national politics, though he has not formally declared any intention to contest in the upcoming election. Meanwhile, loyalists of President Tinubu have begun pushing back against criticisms. The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), a socio-political group, recently reaffirmed its support for Tinubu and warned political figures like El-Rufai against actions that could disrupt national unity or undermine the informal zoning arrangement in Nigerian politics. Despite the defense from supporters, El-Rufai remains firm in his view that a shift in political momentum is underway. He argued that the future of Nigeria’s democracy depends not on elite negotiations but on the voices and votes of ordinary citizens. His comments have sparked further debate about the strength of Tinubu’s political base and whether the President can weather the storm of internal opposition and public dissatisfaction ahead of the 2027 elections.
