  • Tinubu hails abdulsalami as patriot of uncommon integrity at 83Tinubu Hails Abdulsalami Abubakar as Patriot of Uncommon Integrity at 83 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), as a “patriot of uncommon integrity” as the elder statesman marks his 83rd birthday. In a tribute released on Saturday through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu celebrated Abubakar’s selfless service to Nigeria both as a military leader and as a promoter of peace and democracy. “President Tinubu extols General Abubakar for his statesmanship, sacrifice, and significant contributions to Nigeria’s political evolution, particularly the historic handover of power in 1999, which laid the foundation for the Fourth Republic,” the statement read. The President acknowledged Abubakar’s ongoing efforts as Chairman of the National Peace Committee, noting that his voice of moderation and wisdom continues to play a stabilizing role in Nigeria’s democratic journey. He further described the former military leader as a moral compass and peace builder whose interventions during electoral processes have helped strengthen national unity. “As a military leader, General Abubakar demonstrated courage, professionalism, and discipline,” Tinubu said. “In retirement, he has devoted himself to building peace and promoting good governance.” President Tinubu prayed for continued health, strength, and divine grace for the former Head of State, as he joins family, friends, and Nigerians in celebrating his legacy. General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who ruled Nigeria from 1998 to 1999, is widely credited with midwifing the transition to civilian rule that brought in former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He hails from Minna, Niger State, and remains an influential figure in Nigeria’s national affairs.
