In a statement released on Wednesday by ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Federal Government expressed “deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss” over the diplomat’s death. Until his recent ambassadorial appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lele served as the Director in charge of the Middle East and Gulf Division within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His passing comes just weeks after the President approved the postings of 65 ambassadors to various missions worldwide.

He was widely respected by his peers for his intellectual depth, strategic insights, and unwavering commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy interests on the global stage.
The remains of the late diplomat were received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, who described Lele as a “hardworking, humble, and fine officer” whose absence would be deeply felt by the diplomatic community.
Ahmed noted that Lele’s death is a monumental loss to the Foreign Service and the nation at large.
In accordance with Islamic rites, Ambassador Lele was laid to rest in Kano on Wednesday afternoon. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extended its heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and the government and people of Bauchi State, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for his loved ones during this difficult time.
