Ogun State Approves Weekly Day Off, ₦10,000 Monthly Transport Allowance for Civil Servants

The Ogun State Government has approved a new welfare package for civil servants, introducing a weekly day off alongside a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance as part of efforts to cushion the impact of rising living costs.

The decision, which is expected to take effect soon, is aimed at improving workers’ welfare, enhancing productivity, and reducing the financial burden associated with daily transportation amid ongoing economic pressures and inflationary trends across the country.

Under the new arrangement, civil servants in the state will receive ₦10,000 monthly as transport support to help offset commuting expenses. In addition, workers will be entitled to one day off each week, a policy designed to promote work-life balance and improve efficiency within the public service.

Officials say the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to supporting the workforce while maintaining effective service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies. Although full implementation details, including eligibility criteria and payment structure, are yet to be officially published, the announcement has already generated widespread attention among civil servants in the state.

Reactions have been largely positive, with many workers describing the move as a timely intervention that could ease financial pressure. However, some stakeholders have called for broader reforms, including salary adjustments, to provide more sustainable relief in the long term.

The development places Ogun State among several subnational governments introducing targeted welfare measures for public servants in response to rising transportation and living costs.

Further details are expected to be released by the state government in the coming days as implementation plans are finalized.
