70% of New Businesses in Lagos Founded by Youths, Claims Governor Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said that young people are behind 70 percent of all new businesses in the state.

He made the statement while speaking about the growing spirit of entrepreneurship among youths. According to him, this shows how active and determined the younger generation has become in creating their own opportunities.

The governor noted that many young Lagosians are no longer waiting for government jobs. Instead, they are starting small and medium businesses in areas like technology, fashion, food services, and trading.

This trend is helping to reduce the high rate of youth unemployment and bringing fresh energy into the state’s economy.

Lagos, as Nigeria’s commercial capital, has always been a hub for business activities. With a large population of young people, the state is now seeing more of them turn their ideas into real enterprises. Sanwo-Olu believes this development is a positive sign that the future of Lagos is being shaped by its youths.

He praised the young entrepreneurs for their creativity and hard work. The governor also called on other stakeholders to continue supporting them with training, funding, and easier access to business spaces.

He said such support will help these businesses grow stronger and create even more jobs.

This revelation comes at a time when many young Nigerians are facing economic challenges. The fact that seven out of every ten new businesses in Lagos are youth owned shows their resilience and willingness to take risks. It also sends a message that the government recognises the important role they play in driving development.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s comment has encouraged many young people across the state. It highlights how Lagos is becoming a place where youth ideas can turn into successful businesses. As more young entrepreneurs emerge, the state hopes to see even greater growth and innovation in the years ahead.
