Five forest guards, including a commander, were killed by suspected bandits during a midnight raid on Nuku community in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. The victims were part of a newly recruited security team attempting to repel the attack.

The gunmen stormed the village at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, shooting sporadically and causing mass panic. During the assault, the terrorists set several buildings ablaze and destroyed motorcycles belonging to the forest guards.

A mobile police patrol vehicle in the area was also burned to the ground as the attackers operated for several hours. The violence forced many residents to desert their homes, fleeing into the bushes for safety.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, condemned the attack while praising the bravery of the fallen guards. He revealed that the guards fought fiercely, reportedly neutralizing dozens of terrorists before they were overwhelmed.

To address the deteriorating security situation, the Governor immediately constituted a Security Strategy Committee. This team is comprised of retired military generals and top security officers tasked with reviewing and strengthening local protection.

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the incident and deployed tactical teams to the area. An intelligence-driven operation is currently underway to track down the fleeing suspects and restore order to the community.
