Zamfara Assembly Suspends Two LG Chairmen Over Alleged Misuse of Funds

The Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended two local government chairmen over allegations of financial misappropriation.

The affected officials are Mannir Haidara of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area and Umar A. Faru of Bukkuyum Local Government Area.

Their suspension followed the adoption of a report presented by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during plenary on Wednesday.

Spokesperson of the House, Bello Madaro Kurya, said the decision was part of efforts to promote accountability and transparency in local government administration.

He explained that the committee recommended the action after the chairmen allegedly failed to honour invitations to appear before it and provide explanations regarding the expenditure of funds allocated to their councils.

According to him, the House, presided over by Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki, unanimously adopted the recommendation and approved their immediate suspension pending the outcome of investigations.

The Assembly also directed the suspended officials to hand over to their respective vice chairmen without delay.

Lawmakers further cited disregard for legislative authority and concerns over transparency as additional grounds for the action.

Attempts to obtain comments from the affected chairmen were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
