Ghana’s Mahama to Honour Ex-AFDB Boss Adesina with Lifetime Award

Ghana’s President, John Mahama is set to give a special honour to Akinwumi Adesina, the former President of the African Development Bank. Adesina will receive the African Lifetime Achievement Award for his long years of hard work in helping Africa grow stronger.

The award recognises his big role in changing economies, improving farming, and building a better future for the continent.

The big event is planned for April 11 in Accra, Ghana’s capital city. Organisers of the African Heritage Awards made the announcement on Sunday. They said Mahama himself will present the award to Adesina in person.

This makes the occasion even more important as a top African leader honours another who has served the whole continent.

Adesina is being praised as a visionary leader. He used to be Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture before leading the African Development Bank. During his time there, he pushed for major projects in roads, power supply, food security, and energy. His efforts have helped millions of Africans live better lives and strengthened development across many countries.

The organisers described Adesina’s work as truly outstanding. They noted how his ideas and actions have advanced Africa’s growth agenda for decades. This lifetime award is a way of saying thank you for all he has done to lift up the continent and create real change.

Other important people will also be honoured at the same ceremony. These include Dame Marcella and Antoinette Monsio Sayeh for their own contributions in different areas. In the past, the awards have gone to big names like former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and even President Mahama himself.

The ceremony is expected to bring together top leaders, policymakers, and experts from across Africa. It is seen as a major platform to celebrate excellence and inspire younger generations.

For now, many are looking forward to this moment of recognising Adesina’s lasting impact on the continent’s progress.
