Zamfara Governor’s Chief of Staff Escape Death as Gunmen Attack His Convoy
Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Thursday opened fire on the convoy of the Chief of Staff to the Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Mouktar Lugga, along the Funtua–Gusau highway.
The attack reportedly occurred in the evening hours near Kucheri village as Lugga was returning to Gusau from an official engagement.
Eyewitnesses said the armed men emerged suddenly and fired multiple shots at the convoy, causing panic among occupants of the vehicles.
During the assault, a bullet was said to have pierced the windshield of the vehicle conveying the Chief of Staff, narrowly missing the driver. Another gunman reportedly attempted to fire at close range, but his weapon failed to discharge, allowing the driver to swiftly maneuver the vehicle out of the danger zone.
Despite the attack, no casualties were recorded, as all occupants of the convoy escaped unhurt.
The incident highlights the persistent security challenges along major highways in Zamfara State, where bandit attacks and kidnappings have continued to threaten lives and property.
Security agencies are expected to intensify surveillance and patrols in the area, while investigations are ongoing to track down those responsible for the attack.
