Hegseth Sacks Top U.S. Army General in Major Pentagon Shake-Up

The United States Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, has dismissed several senior military officials, including the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, Randy George, in a significant leadership overhaul within the Pentagon.

The decision, announced on Friday, saw General George asked to step down with immediate effect, ending his tenure ahead of schedule. Although initial reports suggested that more than a dozen generals were removed in a single day, verified information indicates that a smaller number of top officers were directly affected in the latest round of dismissals.

Sources within the past U.S. defense establishment confirmed that the shake-up is part of a broader restructuring effort that has led to the removal of multiple high-ranking officers since Hegseth assumed office.

The Pentagon has not provided detailed reasons for the dismissals, fueling speculation about internal disagreements and strategic realignments within the military leadership. Analysts note that such sweeping changes at the top level of command are unusual, particularly at a time of heightened global security concerns.

The development comes amid ongoing tensions involving the United States and Iran, raising questions about the potential impact on military operations and continuity of command.

Meanwhile, Christopher LaNeve, the current Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, is expected to assume the role in an acting capacity pending a formal appointment.

Defense experts say the move signals a shift in leadership direction at the Pentagon, as the current administration seeks to consolidate control and reshape the military’s command structure.

The situation continues to draw reactions from lawmakers and security analysts, with many calling for greater transparency regarding the rationale behind the sudden changes.
