Bruno Fernandes Equals Ronaldo Record with Premier League Player of the Month Award

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for March 2026, marking a historic milestone in his English top-flight career. The Portuguese playmaker’s latest accolade sees him draw level with former teammate and United legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, with both stars now boasting six career Player of the Month awards. Fernandes is now just one trophy away from the all-time record of seven, currently shared by Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero, and Mohamed Salah.

Fernandes was the driving force behind United’s March campaign, registering two goals and four assists in just four matches. His clinical nature and creative vision were on full display throughout the month, beginning with a goal and an assist in a hard-fought victory over Crystal Palace. He continued his creative streak by providing the lone assist in a tough away fixture against Newcastle United and dominated the midfield with two crucial assists for Casemiro and Matheus Cunha in a win over Aston Villa. He closed out the month by keeping his composure to convert a vital penalty in a draw against AFC Bournemouth.

Beyond the monthly trophy, Fernandes’ performance in March saw him shatter a long-standing club record. By reaching sixteen assists for the season, he surpassed David Beckham’s tally of fifteen set during the iconic 1999/00 campaign. He is now within striking distance of the all-time Premier League single-season record of twenty assists held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

With this sixth win, Fernandes cements his status as one of the most consistent performers in Premier League history, joining an elite group that includes Cristiano Ronaldo and Steven Gerrard. He beat out a competitive shortlist for the March award which included former United academy graduate James Garner, Anthony Gordon, and Alex Iwobi. Having also swept the Manchester United fan-voted Player of the Month award with an overwhelming majority of the vote, the captain returns from international duty in peak form as the club prepares for a high-stakes clash against Leeds United.
