Osimhen Eyes Derby Comeback in Early Returns from Injury

In a boost for Galatasaray’s title charge, Nigerian talisman, Victor Osimhen has transitioned to the next phase of his rehabilitation following successful surgery on his right arm. Initial fears suggested a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but the forward’s rapid progress has put him on track for an early return to action.

Osimhen sustained a fractured right forearm during a high-stakes UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg clash against Liverpool at Anfield on March 18, 2026.

The injury occurred early in the first half following an aerial collision with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté, who accidentally landed heavily on the striker’s arm. Despite visible discomfort and what he later described as a sensation that his “arm was falling off,” Osimhen heroically attempted to play through the pain before being substituted at halftime on medical advice.

The 27-year-old underwent successful corrective surgery on March 23, 2026, performed by club physician, Dr. Yener İnce at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital in Istanbul. While medical staff originally estimated a recovery period of five to six weeks, Osimhen has already resumed individual indoor training and gym work as of April 1.

The “masked striker” is reportedly targeting one of the biggest fixtures in world football for his competitive return, when Galatasaray face rivals, Fernabahçe on April 26

To ensure his safety, Osimhen is expected to wear a protective splint on his arm when he re-enters the pitch. His return comes at a pivotal moment, as Galatasaray looks to maintain their lead at the top of the Süper Lig and navigate the final weeks of the 2025/26 campaign.
