Kwankwaso Resigns From NNPP, Cites Strategic Political Realignment

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in a move that has shaken the country’s political landscape.

The 2023 presidential candidate announced his departure on Sunday through a formal statement, noting that the move takes effect immediately and marks the end of his tenure with the party.

Kwankwaso described the exit as a difficult decision, acknowledging his long-standing history, deep personal commitment, and the significant effort he invested in the party’s growth.

He attributed his resignation to the evolving political environment, emphasizing that the current state of the country requires a strategic shift in direction and alliance.

Explaining his reasons, Kwankwaso stated, “As a committed and bonafide member of the party, this was not an easy decision to make. However, considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation.”

The former governor expressed his gratitude to the party leadership, specifically thanking the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, and the National Working Committee for their steadfast support.

He also extended appreciation to the Board of Trustees, various executive organs, and the dedicated members of the Kwankwasiyya movement for their loyalty and hard work.

While his official statement did not name his next destination, reports indicate he is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday during a formal ceremony in Kano.
