Airport Command to Honour Fallen Heroes on National Police Day 2026

By Rachel Akper
The Airport Police Command has announced plans to honour officers who lost their lives in the line of duty as part of the 2026 National Police Day celebrations.

National Police Day, observed annually on March 30, is set aside to remember police officers who have died in the line of duty and to highlight the role of the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining peace, security, and community trust.

The Airport Command’s week-long programme, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” will include sanitation exercises, public sensitisation campaigns, a walkathon, and a ceremonial parade. Families of fallen officers are also expected to receive recognition and support during the events.

Speaking on the occasion, the Command’s Commissioner of Police, Ogunbode Olufunke, said the celebrations aim not only to remember officers who made the ultimate sacrifice but also to inspire professionalism and strengthen engagement between the police and the public.

“The activities will showcase police capabilities and foster stronger community ties, especially within the aviation sector,” Olufunke said.

National Police Day provides an opportunity for the Nigeria Police Force to honour its fallen heroes, reinforce public trust, and highlight the importance of community partnerships in policing.
