Bauchi Police Chief Cries Out Over Severe Shortage of Manpower, Arms

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani Mohammed Saminu, has raised an alarm over a critical shortage of personnel and modern weaponry.

He noted that the current number of officers is insufficient to effectively monitor the state’s vast landmass and its borders with regions prone to banditry.

The CP explained that the security situation is worsened by criminal elements infiltrating border communities like Alkaleri from neighboring states. This manpower deficit makes it difficult to maintain a permanent security presence in remote areas, leaving residents vulnerable to raids by fleeing insurgents.

Beyond personnel issues, the Commissioner lamented the lack of sophisticated equipment needed to counter the firepower of modern criminal gangs. He called on the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police to urgently provide advanced arms and operational vehicles to bolster combat readiness.

To manage the current crisis, the command has deployed joint security forces to high-risk areas such as Gwana and Digare. These teams, consisting of police, military, and civil defense personnel, are working together to restore order and have already begun suppressing criminal activities in those districts.

The Commissioner also appealed to the Bauchi State Government for enhanced logistics and infrastructural support. While acknowledging previous assistance, he emphasized that evolving security threats require greater investment in technology and community policing to bridge existing resource gaps.

Finally, CP Saminu urged citizens to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence to the authorities. He assured the public that all information would be handled with strict confidentiality, maintaining that active community cooperation is essential for safety despite the command’s current limitations.
