Cracks Reportedly Emerge Within Iran’s Security Forces

By Momodu Favour

Fresh reports indicate possible signs of internal strain within Iran’s powerful security apparatus, as small units of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Basij are reportedly refusing to report for duty.

The claim was made by Yechiel Leiter, who said the development points to early cracks within Iran’s ruling system.

According to him, some personnel are not actively rebelling but are quietly disengaging by failing to show up for assignments.

“The edifice of this regime is cracking,” Leiter said, adding that while the situation has not yet escalated into widespread breakdown, it appears to be “a developing process” affecting morale within the ranks.

The reported reluctance among some units comes amid sustained military pressure on Iran, particularly from Israeli operations targeting key military infrastructure and leadership figures. In recent days, senior commanders within the Basij and IRGC have been killed in strikes, further disrupting command structures.

Analysts suggest that repeated targeting of leadership and operational bases may be contributing to uncertainty and fear within Iran’s security forces. Some reports also indicate that newly appointed commanders are increasingly hesitant to assume roles due to the high risks involved.

The Basij, a volunteer paramilitary force closely tied to the IRGC, has historically played a central role in maintaining internal order and suppressing protests across Iran.

Any signs of weakening participation within such groups could carry broader implications for domestic stability, especially at a time when the country has faced recent unrest and economic pressure.

However, experts caution that these claims remain difficult to independently verify and may reflect part of a broader information battle between opposing sides in the conflict.

Despite reported morale issues, there is no confirmed evidence of large-scale defections or a collapse of Iran’s security structure.

For now, observers say the situation points more to early warning signs of strain rather than a decisive shift, as tensions in the region continue to escalate.
