Army Chief Charges Troops to Uphold Unity, Sacrifice
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has called on Nigerian troops to remain united, disciplined, and committed to sacrifice as the country continues to face mounting security challenges.
The Army Chief made the appeal during a Sallah engagement with troops, emphasizing the need for resilience and unwavering dedication in the face of threats including insurgency, banditry, and communal violence.
He stressed that the unity and professionalism of the military are crucial to protecting lives and maintaining the country’s territorial integrity. Lt.-Gen. Shaibu commended the troops for their ongoing sacrifices and urged closer collaboration with other security agencies to achieve lasting peace.
“Unity within the ranks and commitment to duty are essential to overcoming our security challenges,” he said. The call comes amid heightened insecurity in several regions, particularly in the North-East.
Nigerian troops recently repelled a major attack on a military base in Borno State, killing dozens of insurgents in a coordinated counteroffensive. This follows a spate of violent incidents, including suicide bombings in Maiduguri that left multiple casualties.
Security analysts note that the attacks highlight the complexity of Nigeria’s security situation, as the military continues to battle extremist groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP, while also tackling banditry and kidnappings in other parts of the country.
In his address, the Army Chief reaffirmed the military’s commitment to troop welfare and operational support, emphasizing that sustained unity, discipline, and sacrifice remain key to restoring peace and security nationwide.
