Shettima Visits Maiduguri, Condemns Boko Haram Attack, Assures Return of Peace

Vice President Kashim Shettima has strongly condemned the recent bomb explosion in Maiduguri, describing the perpetrators as “demented monsters” and insisting that no religion supports the killing of innocent people.
Shettima made the remarks during a visit to Maiduguri, where he commiserated with victims and families affected by Monday’s attack. The Vice President’s visit comes amid renewed concerns over security in Nigeria’s Northeast region.
Addressing residents and stakeholders, Shettima said the violent actions of Boko Haram do not represent any legitimate religious ideology.
“No religion sanctions the killing of innocent people. These demented monsters called Boko Haram—I don’t even consider them as members of the human race,” he said.
The Vice President assured the people of Borno State and the wider Northeast that the Federal Government remains committed to restoring lasting peace and stability. He emphasized that efforts to defeat insurgency and rebuild affected communities are ongoing and would be intensified.
During the visit, Shettima also extended the Federal Government’s condolences to victims of the blast and reiterated the administration’s resolve to support those impacted. He noted that security agencies are working tirelessly to prevent further attacks and to bring perpetrators to justice.
The explosion, which occurred earlier in the week, has heightened fears of a resurgence of insurgent activities in the region, long considered the epicentre of the Boko Haram crisis.
Shettima called for unity among Nigerians, urging citizens to reject extremism and support ongoing peace-building efforts. He stressed that collaboration between government, security agencies, and local communities remains crucial to ending insurgency.
The Vice President reaffirmed that the government would not relent until peace is fully restored across the Northeast and the country at large.
