Majority of Ogun State Assembly members have officially endorsed Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) for the 2027 governorship race.
This early endorsement marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape as the search for a successor begins.
The declaration took place on Wednesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat in Abeokuta. Out of 26 state lawmakers, 20 have pledged their full support to the Senator, who currently represents Ogun West under the APC.
Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff Abiodun led the delegation, citing Adeola’s extensive legislative experience as the primary reason for their backing. The lawmakers believe his track record at the national level makes him the ideal candidate for the state.
During the press briefing, Abiodun formally confirmed the group’s position, stating, “I am also using this opportunity to declare our unalloyed support for the gubernatorial bid of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola.”
In addition to the governorship bid, the lawmakers reaffirmed their loyalty to the national APC leadership. They joined other political heavyweights in endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections.
This move by the 20 assembly members is viewed as a strategic power play to consolidate the APC’s internal structure. By securing such a large legislative bloc, Senator Adeola gains a significant advantage over other potential party contenders.
The endorsement sends a clear message regarding the political direction of the state’s legislative arm. As the 2027 cycle nears, these lawmakers appear committed to a coordinated effort to ensure Adeola’s success across Ogun State.
