Plateau University Sanctions 76 Students Over Exam Malpractice

Plateau State University has sanctioned 76 students found guilty of examination malpractice during the second semester exams of the 2024/2025 academic session.

The university’s Committee on Examination Misconduct carried out an investigation into the offences, which included possession of mobile phones in exam halls, use of unauthorized notes, and writing on body parts to cheat during examinations.

The findings were subsequently approved at the institution’s 102nd Senate meeting. According to official statements, the sanctions range from rustication for one academic session to outright expulsion in the most severe cases. Affected students are also required to carry over courses in which malpractice occurred.

The Vice-Chancellor of Plateau University, Prof. Shedrach Best, emphasized the institution’s commitment to academic integrity and discipline, stating that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy on examination misconduct.

This development follows a nationwide trend among Nigerian universities to crack down on academic dishonesty, with institutions such as the University of Abuja and Bayero University Kano recently taking similar disciplinary actions against students involved in exam-related offences.

Plateau University has called on all students to uphold ethical standards and personal responsibility in pursuit of their academic endeavours.
