Soludo Sworn in for Second Term as Anambra Governor

By Momodu Favour

Chukwuma Soludo has officially been sworn in for a second term as governor of Anambra State, marking the continuation of his administration following his re-election in November 2025.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square, drew a large crowd of dignitaries, political stakeholders, and traditional leaders from across Nigeria. Soludo took the oath of office at approximately 11:05 a.m., alongside his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim.

The oaths of office and allegiance were administered by the Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, in line with constitutional provisions. Both officials were accompanied by their families during the ceremony, which symbolised the formal commencement of their second tenure.

The event witnessed the presence of top political figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, as well as former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.

Also in attendance was elder statesman Emeka Anyaoku, alongside other prominent personalities.

Traditional rulers from all 179 communities in Anambra State and monarchs from other parts of the country were present, underscoring the cultural and political significance of the occasion.

Soludo, who contested under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), secured re-election on November 8, 2025. The party mobilised supporters from all 326 political wards in the state, contributing to the massive turnout at the inauguration.

Security was visibly heightened across Awka and other parts of the state, with personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and other agencies deployed to ensure a smooth and incident-free ceremony.

The swearing-in follows the conclusion of Soludo’s first term, which ended on Sunday with an interdenominational thanksgiving service held at the International Convention Centre in Awka.

In his second term, expectations are high for the Soludo administration to consolidate on its economic reforms, infrastructure development, and security initiatives, which were central to his first-term agenda.
