Four Suspected Bandits Arrested Near Akure Airport
Four suspected bandits have been arrested within the vicinity of Akure Airport following a coordinated security operation involving aviation and local security agencies.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria said the suspects were apprehended on Saturday after a distress alert reported suspicious individuals behind the airport’s perimeter towards the Eleyeowo community.
Security personnel drawn from FAAN’s Aviation Security unit, the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police Force immediately launched a joint search operation in response to the alert.
During the operation, some of the individuals attempted to flee the area, but four suspects were eventually apprehended by the joint security team. The suspects were subsequently handed over to the police area command for further interrogation.
FAAN commended the swift collaboration among aviation security personnel, the military, the police, and local security groups, including Amotekun Corps and community vigilantes, noting that their joint efforts led to the arrests.
The development has also underscored the need to strengthen airport perimeter protection. Authorities stated that the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has accelerated the provision of modern perimeter fencing and enhanced security infrastructure at airports nationwide with the support of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The agency added that work has already commenced in phases to improve security across airports under FAAN and prevent unlawful access and other security threats.
FAAN reassured the travelling public and host communities of its continued commitment to maintaining safety and security at airport facilities across the country.
