Anambra Lawmaker Empowers Constituents with Motorcycles, Equipment

In a major constituency empowerment initiative, Chimezie Ikwunne, member representing Awka North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, has distributed motorcycles, grinding machines, hair dryers, sewing machines, and cash support to over 150 constituents.

The distribution event, held in Ebenebe, Awka North Local Government Area, saw beneficiaries drawn from different communities, including youths, women, artisans, and traders. Items distributed included 35 motorcycles, 15 shuttle buses, 30 grinding machines, 31 hair dryers, 35 sewing machines, along with cash support for selected recipients, valued at over ₦150 million.

Addressing the gathering, Ikwunne said the empowerment was intended to “restore dignity to rural life, engage the youths, ease the burden on women, and create a foundation for inclusive development.” He also lauded the state government for improving road infrastructure, highlighting the Amansea–Awba Ofemili road as a key factor that has enhanced transportation and boosted agricultural productivity in the area.

The initiative drew commendation from the Anambra State Chairman of APGA and the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, both of whom praised the lawmaker for delivering tangible support to his constituents.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting that the tools and equipment would help them start or expand income-generating activities and support their families.

This empowerment programme is part of a growing trend among Nigerian lawmakers to provide constituents with practical tools and resources to stimulate local economic growth, particularly in rural communities.
