Petokemp CEO Endorses Tinubu, Oborevwori for 2027 Elections Amid Major Political Realignment
In a major boost for Nigeria’s ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections, businessman Okeleke Peter Ebuka Petokemp, CEO of Petokemp Estate Solutions Ltd., has officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for re-election.
Petokemp’s endorsement came alongside his celebration of a major political shift in Delta State: the defection of Governor Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This realignment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the APC’s foothold in the South-South region, traditionally a PDP stronghold.
In a statement, Petokemp emphasized the importance of continuity in governance, urging Nigerians to rally behind Tinubu and Oborevwori to ensure sustained progress and development.
“Despite the
challenges facing our
nation, Nigerians need
to support President
Tinubu and Governor
Oborevwori for
continuity and
development,” he said.
Governor Oborevwori’s defection, announced after extensive consultations with Delta political stakeholders, has sent shockwaves through the PDP. Senator James Manager, a former PDP chairman in Delta, remarked,
“You cannot be in a
boat that is already
capsizing because I
am a riverine man,”
signaling
disillusionment with
the PDP’s current
trajectory.
The move has been warmly welcomed by APC leaders. Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege hailed the defections as a “significant milestone” for the party, stating,
“This development
reaffirms our
commitment to
progressive
governance, promising
a brighter future for
our people and a more
prosperous, secure,
and united Nigeria.”
However, within APC ranks, voices of caution have emerged, advising that new entrants must embrace the party’s progressive ideals and avoid replicating old political practices.
As Nigeria’s political landscape begins to heat up ahead of 2027, the endorsements and defections in Delta State underscore the evolving alliances and battles for dominance in the coming election cycle.
